LOT DESCRIPTION
PHILIPPINES. Japanese Occupation. Jose Rizal Medal Struck in Silver, 1943. MINT STATE. 30 mm; 11.82 gms. Basso-unlisted. VERY SCARCE. Issued during the Japanese Occupation in 1943 commemorating the "Exhibit of Rizal’s Writings in the Tagalog Language". Typical bust of Rizal and with the years “1861- 1896" on the obverse with the inscription written in "Baybayin" (an ancient form of the Philippine language). Bold details and original surfaces. Attractive molted tone with plenty of dark to medium blue along with deep rose and amber coloration in the centers. The nicer of the two examples in the sale based on its superior strike.
